TERMS OF USE
The rules,
in plain English.
These terms cover the Defend HQ Chrome extension, the family website (app.defendhq.app) and this website. By using any of them, you agree to these terms. Please read them with our privacy policy.

What Defend HQ does
Defend HQ is a helper for Google Chrome. It warns you about websites, downloads and pop-ups that look like scams, explains what’s wrong in plain words, and can let a family member you choose see how your computer is protected. You stay in charge: you can always decide what to do next.
What it can’t promise
Scammers change their tricks every day. Defend HQ catches a great deal, but no tool can catch everything, and it can sometimes warn about a website that is safe. So:
- Defend HQ is an extra layer of care, not a guarantee. Keep your computer, Chrome and your other security software up to date.
- If someone asks you for money, gift cards, passwords or control of your computer, stop and check with someone you trust, even if Defend HQ shows no warning.
- Defend HQ’s advice is general guidance. It isn’t legal, financial or professional advice.
- The phone numbers and websites Defend HQ points to for help (for example, the FTC or AARP) are run by others. We check them, but we don’t control them.
Free and Premium
Defend HQ’s core protection is free.
During early access, Premium features are included at no cost and there’s nowhere to enter a card. If Premium goes on sale, we’ll show the price and ask you first. Nothing is ever charged without your choosing it.
Family accounts
- You need to be an adult (18 or over) to make a family account.
- Use an email address you can read: it’s how you get password resets and sign-in alerts.
- Keep your password to yourself. If you think someone else knows it, change it on the family website (Account).
- Only connect a computer you look after with the agreement of the person who uses it. The computer shows who connected it, and the person can disconnect at any time.
Using it fairly
Please don’t:
- use Defend HQ to watch, follow or control someone without their agreement;
- try to get into accounts, computers or information that aren’t yours, or to break or overload our services;
- use Defend HQ’s services to send spam, or to send codes or messages to people who didn’t ask for them;
- pretend to be Defend HQ, or use our name to trick anyone.
We may pause or close an account that does these things, and we’ll tell you why when we safely can.
Stopping
You can stop whenever you like: remove Defend HQ from Chrome (chrome://extensions → Remove), disconnect a computer, or delete your family account on the family website (Account → Delete your account). What happens to your information then is in the privacy policy.
If we ever stop offering Defend HQ or one of its features, we’ll say so on this website first and give you time to make other arrangements.
Responsibility
We work hard to make Defend HQ reliable, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”, without promises that it will always work, catch every scam, or never make a mistake. As far as the law allows, Defend HQ isn’t responsible for losses caused by scams, by other people, or by relying on Defend HQ, and our total responsibility to you for anything to do with Defend HQ is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the problem (or $50 if you paid nothing).
Some places don’t allow these limits. Where that’s the case, they apply only as far as the law there allows.
Changes and questions
If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change applies. If a change matters to you, you can stop using Defend HQ at any time.
